Part 2 of 4 in our seasonal travel series
Some seasons shout. Others whisper. But late summer and fall at Innsbrook do something better—they hum, like the gentle hymn through the hills or the slow percussion of a gentle stream.
For those who crave less noise and more nature, this might just be the best time to visit. The weather remains warm. The lakes are calm. The crowds thin out. And the schedule softens just enough to remind you what it feels like to move at your own pace.
August: The Gentle Unwind
In August, summer’s heartbeat steadies. Camp sessions wrap up. Weekdays become quieter. But the weekends? They still dance.
The beloved Summer Breeze Concert Series continues, bringing music to the Commons stage under the open sky. On select weeks, artist workshops return, offering moments of creativity that feel as nourishing as a sunset paddle. And for one powerful day in mid-August, Swim Across America takes over Alpine Lake—drawing swimmers, volunteers, and supporters from all over to raise funds for cancer research in a moving celebration of courage and hope.
As summer edges into its final act, Labor Day Weekend steps in with one last joyful flourish. It’s Innsbrook’s official farewell to the season, and it brings the energy to match: a sailing regatta, a tennis tournament, a marathon, and a ticketed evening celebration at the Aspen Center. It’s a sendoff worthy of summer’s glow—and one last chance to soak it all in before the tempo truly changes.
September: A Season Between
September drifts in like a deep breath. The days are still warm, the lakes still swimmable, and the trees just beginning to tease the colors of fall. Weekday escapes feel personal and private, perfect for remote workers or travelers looking to disconnect without leaving comfort behind.
And while the calendar grows quieter, it doesn’t go silent. A craft and vendor show at the Charrette Creek Commons gives guests one last taste of summer festivity, with handmade goods and friendly faces by the changing colors of the neighboring forests.
But the real surprise of the season comes just a few miles beyond the gates.
When most think fireworks belong to July, Sky Wars begs to differ. Held at the corner of routes F and M, this massive pyrotechnic show is one of the most impressive fireworks displays in the Midwest. Synchronized to music, it features tiered launches from ground level to sky-high bursts, cranes loaded with effects, and even a fireball so big it could make a Hollywood director jealous. With the towering trees still clinging to their leaves, you won’t be able to see it from Innsbrook. You’ll need tickets in advance—but trust us: it’s worth the planning and the quick drive.
October: Where Stillness Glows
By October, something shifts. The pace slows even further. The forests begin their brilliant transformation. And yet, for a breath more, the resort remains lush—green still clings to the trees, soft grasses blanket the fairways, and the golf course stays in top form.
Misty mornings settle over the lakes, making sunrise coffee on the deck feel cinematic. Birds call across the water. A hint of woodsmoke curls from nearby chimneys. The peace is palpable.
And when the color peaks—usually around the middle of the month—the Annual Fall Home Tour begins, giving guests a chance to explore some of Innsbrook’s most stunning properties set against the vibrant backdrop of crimson and gold. A Trunk or Treat allows little ones to haunt the Charrette Creek Commons for a spell. A half marathon provides a breathtaking backdrop for a personal best record, and the annual Jeep Safari takes a wild tour through the hills, valleys, and wilds of Innsbrook.
By the end of October, leaves begin to fall in earnest, fluttering down like slow applause to cover the forest floor. They blanket next year’s seedlings, settling in for the quiet season ahead. But even then, Innsbrook remains vibrant in its stillness.
